Dog: Boxer
Origins: Developed as a breed of its own in Germany in the 1800′s, but probably descended from Mastiff-, Bulldog-, and Great Dane-type dogs from much earlier than that.
Size: Medium to large. From 20 to 25 inch (53 – 63cm) tall at the shoulder.
Physical Appearance: Muscular, square-built, strong-boned. Coat made up of short, smooth, glossy hairs.
Characteristics: Affectionate, loyal, energetic, brave; good with family but may be aggressive towards strangers.
Colors: Fawn or brindle with white markings. Show dogs’ white markings should not cover more than one-third of the body.
Special Facts: Boxers need a lot of exercise and proper training – your boxer may seem like a total softie with you, but if not kept under control, he may get into fights with other dogs and with people he doesn’t know!
